I was born in Germany, Robert Cillian Croft to my parents, Cynthia and Robert Sr. We moved around a lot as my father was an Army Special Forces officer. He did special recon and unconventional warfare missions. My father was hard on me, pushing me to do well in school, to be better than I was. Dad was gone a lot, turns out he was really special ops, as in, he killed people that were hard to kill for the Army. Mom, she was just mom. Making all the different bases we were stationed to a home, taking care of me and dad. She was the only family I had that I ever cared for. She was the person I loved most. The last person I loved for a very log time.
Once I was 16, my family moved back to the states. We were in North Carolina then. Dad got out of the military right after, said he had some business venture that he wanted to get into. He never told mom what it was that I know, but I suspected. He had a few Army buds who were with him a lot. Dad was taking trips for a day or two, coming home and drinking more. He had always done that after kill missions, so I knew he was killing people. I just thought he was doing it for the government. I had always enjoyed the kill. I had hunted small game. I had also been robbed when I was 17... and I got the gun from my robber and shot him. It was a thrill. My first real kill. I felt nothing but thrill for it. No guilt.
I joined the Army when I got out of high school, did a couple years service and found out it wasn’t right for me. I liked to shoot, my dad had taught me, he taught me many useful things. I liked the order and discipline, but I just didn’t fit in. I was discharged at 21 and went home to find my dad sending a transaction to an offshore bank. There were a lot of 0s and I was intrigued. He finally let me know, he was killing, but for hire, not for our country. He had a business of it. I immediately wanted in and dad, being the good father he was, let me. I enjoyed the work. It wasn't too much actual work though. I was killing for fun, the work was making sure I didn't get caught.
I spent a few years working for dad, building my own fortune and reputation. We moved the operation to Shreveport, LA once my mother died of cervical cancer. I had ideas to make the business better, but dad refused to change his ways. Stubborn man, resisting technology. We fought one night and he fired me. I wasn't ready to stop working, or be killed. Dad had a policy back then, when you got fired, or quit, he made sure you didn't go to the competition. Back then, there was a lot of that. I killed my father that night, and never felt even a twinge of guilt, knowing he would have killed me. I took over the business and I made it better. I used a combo of tech, the most lethal assassins I could find, and no getting caught. Dad had a few near misses. I don't have those.
I had my eyes on Army and Marine recruits, I used dad’s old contacts to find men and women with potential. I scouted some of them, recruited a few, and let a select few become my assassins. I retired mostly from the actual hitting, I was the paper pusher. I made the contacts, took care of the money, and set up the kills. It kept my people from getting caught. I felt like they were family, really. I grew the business, making it international and successful.
One recruit I found from the Army was Kaleb Brady. He was a crack shot and he passed all the psych tests and evals he went through. I recruited him to my organization personally and he became one of my top hitters. He made more money in a year than some of my others could make in their lifetimes. Kaleb recently quit, but not before I left a little reminder on him. I’ve kept watch on him. I want him back, the organization needs him. And I have a slightly personal interest in him.
Now, I'm looking for some new recruits, I'm being wary of vampires, or just plain killing them to get what I want.
